Marble Racing

Homeschooling’s not all about the school work..

Our family has been enjoying watching “Marbula One” videos on YouTube recently. The creator of these marble runs is obviously VERY passionate about marble racing! At the beginning of each race there is a fancy intro, which is reminiscent of real sporting events. Competing in each race are a number of marble ‘participants’, who represent their teams, while surrounding the tracks are miniature grandstands containing marble spectators! There are even ‘safety marbles’ which are deployed to dislodge any stranded marbles. The commentating is extremely realistic too, which makes it pretty hilarious. Before a race, each member of our family picks a marble and then we watch to see who wins. It’s amazing how excited people can get over a random marble race, and how invested you get in your team! It’s really very mesmerising. I also find the comments on the videos amusing to read through, with many of them along the lines of “Starting the Video: This is not interesting at all. After the first Lap: Let’s gooooo Green Ducks!”

Inspired by these videos, my son Alex has spent nearly every afternoon of the last week attempting to build marble racing tracks out of his hotwheels equipment – with mixed results! It has certainly produced a bit of a new obsession, and despite the mess has been fun to get involved in. My husband even helped the kids put together a video of a marble race, complete with commentating and race officials!
