Camping at Home

I followed the lead of some homeschooling and Facebook friends and decided to implement a camping trip at home! Such a fun idea for when you can’t actually go on holiday anywhere! We love our holidays and the chance to explore new places, so it was great to have something fun to focus on instead of mourning the loss of a proper holiday.

Needless to say, the kids were super excited about it and were surprisingly very helpful at setting up the tent. Due to the size of it, the backyard was the only possible location (I had considered inside the house). Originally I thought we might just let them play in it during the day and maybe my husband and I could each take a turn at sleeping out there with them for a night. Surely they would be too scared to sleep in it without us..?

As it turned out, our kids were desperate to sleep out in the tent on their own! Apparently having Mum or Dad there would spoil the fun. (I wonder if this is the result of reading them Swallows and Amazons!?) Grace (our eldest) immediately took on the role of camp mum, organising where everyone would sleep and ensuring the tent would be kept tidy and clean. This left me wondering why I don’t just delegate this job to her ordinarily!

So despite the cooling weather, the kids enjoyed 4 nights out in the tent, only one of them with my husband (this was more so I could get a good night’s sleep without worrying about them!!) Overall, a worthwhile experience that will probably be repeated!
