History Fair Projects

As expected, the 2021 AHE History Fair was a highlight of the term for my kids. It was a bit of an effort to actually get them there though!

Since I was due to have a baby three days before the fair I had already anticipated some challenges. So I cracked the whip and we made sure to get all three boards finished the week before with time to spare for practising answering questions (a judge chats to them about their projects at the fair and this is part of their mark). This inevitably meant a lot of our normal school work got ditched for a couple of weeks! I knew that once the baby came there would be little help I could give to them.

Additionally, I had arranged with my mother in law to transport them and their projects on the day of the fair, and for my mum to meet them there to assist with set up. I assumed that I would be able to look after the other two (or three) children at home myself.

Little did I know that I would end up in hospital recovering from a c-section! This meant the younger two also needed babysitting, so we called in the help of some homeschooling friends, who had them for most of the day.

Now for the actual projects..

Grace (11) did hers on the 9/11 World Trade Centre attacks:

Alex (9) researched the history of trains:

And Jessica (7) chose to do a family history project on my grandfather:

Although it was a slightly different experience to usual and I was sad to miss out on being there myself, I am so grateful to all those who helped to ensure my kids made it! They would have been so disappointed not to go after all their hard work. Once again, a worthwhile (if time-consuming and logistically challenging) endeavour.
