Happy Easter
Easter is one of our family’s favourite times of the year. We have gathered several family traditions from various sources and they all contribute to making it a memorable event.
About a fortnight ago we commenced our Easter advent Bible readings (taken from the Musings in Adelaide blog). On most days the kids either painted or drew something to represent the reading for that day.
Our roast lamb “Passover” meal was brought forward a day to accommodate a friend’s birthday party, but we still enjoyed the lamb with pita bread and grape juice, plus some other middle-eastern side dishes such as cous cous and roasted chickpeas. This was accompanied by our annual foot-washing too!
Attending our church’s Good Friday service was another meaningful Easter activity, which of course will be followed by the Easter Sunday service, with its mandatory “He is Risen;” “He is risen indeed” recital.
Not to be forgotten are the sweet treats – homemade hot cross buns (way better than store bought!) and an Easter egg hunt on Sunday, with the hollow eggs representing the empty tomb and also new life (in Christ).
Easter is so much more fun and memorable with all of our traditions. They really aid the kids’ understanding of what Easter is all about and make the story so much more vivid! These are childhood memories they will take into adulthood and hopefully cherish!
