Easter Advent

We have begun our Easter Advent Bible readings. Every year the kids look forward to this, perhaps because it is something a bit different from our normal Bible time. It also helps to prepare them for Easter itself and remind them what the whole thing is about. It seems to increase their anticipation of the event!

This year we are doing the Luke version of Musings in Adelaide‘s Easter resources. Have a look at her other Easter posts too for good ideas on celebrating Easter, and check out my old posts also by searching for “Easter” on this blog or start here: Easter 2021.

I have a bunch of old Kinder Surprise plastic eggs that I use for hiding an item in each day as a precursor to the Bible reading. E.g. today’s one contained a little toy donkey/horse since today’s reading was about Jesus riding the colt into Jerusalem.

After doing the reading and questions, we have a tradition where the kids draw a picture depicting the scene just read while I continue with our current read-aloud (Lord of the Rings, The Return of the King at the moment.) Last year I picked one picture each day to put up on the wall, but given my blu-tak seems to have vanished, we are putting them into a plastic sleeve with the intention of collating them into a sort of book. They still have their ones from last year to compare them with!

Our Easter Bible readings underpin all the other Easter-related activities we do, since they are the most important part!
