The Great and Terrible Quest

I recently read the book “The Great and Terrible Quest” by Margaret Lovett to the kids, based on a recommendation from Rosie Boom’s Values devotional. It was fantastic! Such an exciting and clever adventure story. It probably went over the heads of the younger children, but the 8 and 10 year old were enthralled. Even I had trouble putting it down! Because it is an older book – written in 1967 – there aren’t many copies at the library, but I highly recommend ordering it.

It is the story of a young boy who lives with his horrible and cruel grandfather. He escapes and find himself on a quest with a stranger, based on a mysterious verse and golden ring..

“Silver hidden in the gold, young man hidden in the old, laughing lord with weeping eyes..”

Character traits such as courage, loyalty and honour are displayed throughout the story. It encourages standing against evil and fighting for what’s good and right. All the elements of a great book!
