Excel Workbooks

While I wouldn’t necessarily recommend spending too much time using workbooks as part of your homeschooling curriculum, they do have their uses:

1. They enable kids to work independently when necessary and

2. They can be helpful for filling gaps in kids’ learning

My husband sells a wide selection of workbooks at very competitive prices from the Excel and Back To Basics range by Pascal Press. These are also great for homework if your child doesn’t get any from school. If there is one you are after, or you would like a workbook suggestion for a particular topic your child is struggling with, please get in touch! Even if we don’t have it in stock we might be able to order it in for you.

Some examples of when these workbooks might be useful include:

  • Appointments at the doctor or dentist
  • Being supervised by someone else (e.g Granny) for a morning
  • Practise in a specific topic such as telling the time or money
  • Extra but different work for the holidays (our kids used to find this exciting but aren’t quite so easily fooled now!)
  • Easy curriculum for a trip overseas
  • Supplementing a school curriculum that is less than satisfactory
  • When you need a bit of peace and quiet

Some of the ones we’ve used are:

Each page spread has one unit of English and one of Maths. It has good coverage of the various concepts a child is expected to know in a school year. Year 5 Australian is equivalent to Year 6 in NZ. There are many year levels available.

Fun reading tasks for helping with comprehension. Remember for NZ year levels add one on.

Comprehensive Maths practise that logically progresses through the various topics a child is expected to cover in a year of schooling.

Teaches the different genres of writing and provides practise in improving and composing writing.
