Hut Building
The other day I posted about a Story of the World (history) activity we did – Cave Painting. On the weekend, the kids eagerly completed one of the other suggested activities from the same chapter; building a hut in the backyard.
I was naively imagining small model huts made from sticks and leaves etc – so when I glanced out the window and saw the huge (fallen) branches my son had collected from the bush behind our house I was a little taken aback and began slightly regretting my encouragement of the idea! Knowing my husband would not be impressed with sticks all over his lawn I suggested building it in a corner of the garden, as much off the grass as possible.
The four of them laboured together with Alex as foreman, and when they brought me out to view their finished product I have to say I was rather impressed! Here it is:
They can actually stand up inside the hut, although I doubt it will last the next storm. I’m just hoping the whole thing doesn’t come crashing down on top of them, or that the neighbour doesn’t inadvertently knock the main supporting branch sideways!
