10 Fun Activity Ideas

Time for some more great ideas for keeping the kids entertained, thanks mostly to my awesome friends! You could nominate one of your kids to write a list of challenges, one for each day. Some of these can even be classed as ‘educational’ – brilliant! (When you’re homeschooling you start to see the educational benefits of almost everything!)

1. Play a game of darts

Put one kid in charge of adding up the scores. Quick adding practice, nice!

2. Maths checkpoint

Set up a checkpoint / barrier arm / traffic light that the kids have to go through on their bikes or scooters (could just be your legs propped up on another chair). To be allowed passage they must answer a basic facts question you fire at them! You can just sit there having a cuppa and they get both physical exercise and a brain workout!

3. Hands & feet hopscotch

The goal is to jump from one row to the next, placing the appropriate hand or foot on the picture. To set up, just print out some pictures and tape them to the floor – then shuffle them around the next time!

4. Bingo

Get the kids to pick their own numbers, then you call out numbers or sums. First to get 5 in a row (or whatever) wins!

5. Photo Scavenger Hunt

For testing their observational skills, go through your house and take close-up photos of different things, then Chromecast them all to the TV (or put them up on your computer screen). For each photo the kids have to guess what the photo was of. For younger kids it could be photos of something they can find and bring to you, like a teddy.

6. Build a hut

Take a deep breath and prepare for some mess.. let your kids build huts out of sheets, cushions, couches, chairs etc. Tip – make them promise to clean up at the end before letting them begin!

7. Compose a song or poem

Have a performance at the end of the day – you could even record these to send to friends and family.

8. Make paper planes

Have a competition to see whose flies the furthest or stays up the longest. Check out YouTube for some new designs.

9. Make up a dance routine

They could either work together or compete – I imagine it would be pretty funny getting them to teach you the moves!

10. Planking competition

My friend’s kids did this across the fence with their neighbours – with a 2 metre separation of course!
